My Current Research

My research focuses on the limitation of currently available pharmacological treatments for Alzheimer’s disease and Schizophrenia. To find new treatment avenues I study induced pluripotent stem cell models of Alzheimer’s disease and pharmacological and genetically modified models relevant to the pathophysiology and symptomatology of Schizophrenia.

The experimental techniques of my research are:

  • Rodent Behaviour Paradigms (Locomotor activity, Sensorymotor gating [PPI], T-Maze, Novel object recognition, Water maze)
  • In Vivo neurochemistry changes (Microdialysis with GC-MS/MS or protein analysis)
  • In Vitro cell culture investigations (primary neurons, neurons from induced pluripotent stem cells, 3D culturing methods, Ca2+ imaging, live cell imaging, DNA, RNA and protein analysis)
  • Postmortem immunology-based analysis of morphological and biochemical changes (in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry, RNA and protein quantification)
